You Make 30dayartist!

WE NEED YOUR VIEWS.

The mail we get from people wanting to be 30day artist is growing.

1.We've queued people up till the end of the year, but we're still getting more intrest.

We need a new way to pick our 30 day artist. How we decide will be largely based on your views.

2. At the moment, @ 30day artist, we basicly let the artist do what ever they want, should there be rules/guidelines?

what should those Rules/guidelines be?

No No No .. rules no guidelines no turnin back :P

I believe there shuoldn`t be any... then we wouldn`t come up with anything like.... for instance Thaneeya.. her work is souly what she`ll pour in right from her feelings and heart.. so when we have rules to follow ,it wont be a raw art.. WE are all here to see what each and every artist have to offer to us... a piece of their world and how they preceive it :) This whole 30Day artist wouldnt have started if it wasn`t for Ming who told a friend to paint his feelings on a canvas

hmmm ..maybe some rules are good ...
what if artist identifies upfront their intended medium for the 30 days ie., oil paint, then at least 90% of their work should be oil paint (You will get more oil painters watching, and it also forces the artist to explore their chosen medium more deeply and as a result perhaps grow further...) If an artist medium is clay then ask 90% of their work be in clay ... and you advertise" we have clay artist for month of September" , same for photography etc., Also this way people will know what to expect/not be disappointed. You could post the line-up a few months ahead so people can tell their friends . I like oil painting but my friend is crazy about sculpture, if I know sculpture artist is coming up in a few months I'll tell her and she will check you out and maybe get hooked too, word will spread... Plus I will watch too cause i want to learn something new... Identifying the medium makes it easier for you to advertise the upcoming artist as you know better the sites to target (that share the same interest).

through my time, i had an artist
friend to called. and he was a
very good coach all the way
through. so, i suggest we have
a special telephone line connecting
with the current 30dayartist with him.

and ofcourse, you know who you are,
artist friend.

I like the idea of announcing the mdium/themes/whatever ahead of time...but if there are rules and restrictions placed on the artist, there is a danger of the whole thing becoming boring. It's a heck of a lot of paintings to crank out in a month--that's probably enough to do right there!

I've been inspired by reading the archives. It's wonderful watching other people work!

Hey,

Sorry to leave this in your comments, but I couldn't find a way to contact you by email. You can delete this comment after you've read it.

I own a site about art history ( http://www.artinthepicture.com ) and I am going to set up a favourite art blog section on my frontpage, and maybe we could exchange links. My email address is bruno@artinthepicture.com .

Please let me know what you think of my site and whether you would want to exchange links. Keep up the good work at bringing Art in the Picture ;).

Best regards,

Bruno Dillen

just 1 simple rule,.....there must be art and posting everyday, rain or shine, no matter what. the artist must be fully commited.

annoucing the shortlisted artists and their intended medium 1 or 2 months ahead will be good. then maybe, we can vote.

Hmmm...

yes I too like the idea of the artist committing to a medium/concept/theme - "Anonymous" made some good points.

& I agree that too many rules would stifle the thing and make it boring...

You know, maybe it would be OK to have a long waiting list for those who want to be on 30dayartist.
One result of a long waiting list might be that people would consider very seriously their level of commitment to such an endeavour. Tenacity is a sign of intense desire, after all.

Perhaps this initial rush of interest (to be featured on 30dayartist) would be eventually be honed down to those willing to be tenacious & the not-so-serious folks would fall back?

I mean, people do wait for years before they finally recieve artists' grants.

Perhaps, Ming, it's up to you to decide who is suitable based on the stated intent of the applicants - could be a a good experience for you, kind of like field training for when you have a "real" brick & mortar gallery!

just a thought...

Hey Ming, here's another thought:
well, two related thoughts:
(or maybe 3:)

1. are you paid in any way for maintaining 30dayartist?
(like in cold hard cash, that is - I'm sure the metaphysical rewards are many)

2. are you serious about one day wanting a real live gallery of your own? A gallery with an actual physical roof & walls & interior walls for hanging paintings in real time?

3. speaking only for myself here, I would like to ship to you one of the artworks I plan to make in June, maybe as the start of a "permanent collection" for your future dream gallery.
(that is, if you like my work enough to want one!)
(& I'd pay the shipping fee of course - just to be clear on that point)

It would be a way of paying you for your efforts - and also possible future publicity for my artworks!
A win/win situation?

Perhaps I am being too hasty here, but I've kinda been thinking about this so here you have it, I'm just blurting out my idea.

I don't think we ought to vote
doesn't seem like it would be fair, somehow...
